In 2008 year one of the versions of possible logo for our city was appreciated the draft of logo designed by Stefanart. The discussion about that it is the prototype or even copy of well-known logo of Unilever Company damped down a little the attitude of jury to this undoubtedly good graphic solution.
A few years passed and plagiarism of this solution appeared in Mexico as logo of exhibition in Mexican Leon.

On Saturday we gathered with the most active participants of brand session at «Dacha».  By the close circle we outlined the plan of  further work concerning branding of Odessa. We discussed the necessity to create a fund which will finance the designing of city’s brand. Three companies whcih are ready to invest the first means are fixed already.

For designing of full-fledged brand platform of the city we need the answers of residents of Odessa to the question «Оdessa is а …» etc. Anoon, almost next week the questions for members of The World Odessit Club — creative and cultural élite of Odessa and also the questions for residents of the city will be ready. The poll will be conducted by the forces of companies who are an active participants of the proccess.

We will make a simple web site  to get the answers from the residents of Odessa who live in another countries for a long time and also from those who live in the Internet.

We hope for the support of Mikhail Zhvanetsky.

On the 5 of September at The Odessa Music Comedy Theatre was held brand session for Odessa. Trough ten hours more then 60 residents of Odessa worked on the disclosure of true image of Odessa.

        I am sure, that it will be useful if the residents of Odessa who live abroad now join the discussion, because they are also keepers of that Odessa which is interesting for tourist.

        The discussion will last till 15 of September. On the basis of agreed brand platform will be developed the brief for creating of Odessa’s identity. And only using this brief the designers will have an opportunity to prepare decent version of Odessa tourist logo till 8 of October (the contest for tourist logo is extended till this date).

      A lot of time has passed from that moment when we started to deal with Odessa tourist logo. The designers have drawn, offered the ideas and you, dear readers, have voted. Thanks you for your support of work of those people who are not indifferent to the image of Odessa.

      And yet, alas, Odessa (at all its incredible potential, energy, history and uniqueness) still doesn’t have its brand of full value and recognizable visual image which will symbolize the city, able to attract and hold the guests emotionally.

      And now let’s imagine that businessmen, politicians, cultural workers, journalists and even students got together, come to an agreement and arrange the function of Odessa in the creation of potential guests of the city, single image and vector of development… Because you know, brand of native city is the goal which can unite everybody regardless of their profession, religion and social status. Then thousands and rather millions of tourists will come to Odessa to get impressions, admire the city and come back again. Odessa will become the city about which people from other cities will know and dream to visit it.

      On the 5th of September joint brand session of hundreds of Odessa’s residents of different professions and age with team of project from Kiev «Бренд города – дело Горожан» (Brand of city is matter of its residents) will take place. I invite all not indifferent residents of Odessa who are ready to take part in the development and promotion of Odessa to visit this open meeting which will be held at the Theater of Music Comedy.

      The result of the meeting must be agreed image of Odessa (using the language of marketing — «brand paltform») which later became the basis for building of our city’s promotion strategy. More details about meeting.

      The contest which was announced is new, the rules are concrete, so if you have some fresh ideas, thoughts and abilities of its realization, I invite you to take part in this contest. And not as a critics but exclusively as mark etrs – creators-artists.

      I have translated from the state language into Russian the document about the rules of holding the contest.

      To take part in the contest it is necessary to make application and pass it to the Department of recreational complex and tourism of Odessa City Council at the address: 8, Deribasovskaya Street, Odessa.

      The draft of tourist emblem of Odessa city (in black-and-white and in color versions) must be submitted in electronic format.

      The drafts must be submitted for the contest in the form of original font solutions, special graphic emblems and also in the form of linking font solutions and emblem.

      The short text description must be attached to the draft.

      Printed drafts of emblems must be submitted on the sheets of A-4 format.

      To take part in the contest of tourist slogans it is necessary to make application and present the example of tourist slogan of the city (short advertising message about Odessa which would describe the city, emphasize its individuality and promote the attraction of tourists) to the Department of recreational complex and tourism of Odessa City Council

      When developing the drafts of emblems and slogans one should take into account that tourist emblem and slogans must be original and memorable and to present tourists objects and tourist potential of Odessa in the best possible way. It is necessary to foresee the possibility of effective usage of tourist symbols both on the big banners and on the promotional products (T-shirts, caps, stationery etc.).

      Additionally tourist symbols must assume its usage on the printing products and photo-, video products.

      Total amount of work presented within one application is limited by one project. The works will be accepted till 8 of October 2010.

      Reception hours since 10:00 am. till 04:00 p.m daily, except weekend.

      The appointments are conducted by Коvalenko Аnjelika Коnstantinovna – deputy director of the Department of recreational complex and tourism of Odessa City Council.

      Competitive selection of project.

      The selection of projects is made by jury of the contest. Personal composition of the jury is approved by the order of mayor.

      The work of jurymen isn’t payable.

      The session of jury is considered to be effective if no less then two thirds of jurymen will be present there.

      The projects are submitted to the jury in the following composition:

      concept of the project (draft of logo);

      explanatory note.

      The voting of jury is conducted in two rounds, at that each juryman has one vote. The decision of the jury is accepted by simple majority by means of secret ballot. In the event of divided vote the head of jury has full voting status.

      The decision of the jury, recommendations about art improvement of the project should be executed in the form of report, which must be signed by the head and the secretary of jury.

      The decision of jury is the reason to prepare the project of Odessa City Council’s decision about approval of official tourist logo of Odessa. The information about the results of jury’s work is opened.

      The usage right of Odessa’s tourist logo which won in the contest belongs to the local socity of Odessa city.

      The opinions of the residents of Odessa who has voted for the logo and the opinion of Artemiy Lebedev differ in the main.

      Тhe opinion of Artemiy Lebedev  about the logo ANCJOR from  Ivan Voin  who has represented two versions of the city’s logo looks like this.

      It is very cool logo. Remove the slogan and use the logo in the city. It would look especially cool on the official city posters. Also it can be printed on the T-shirts and sold with success. And the question with spelling is solved elegantly here. In a word this is very good logo for Odessa, I love it already.
