The tourist logo of Odessa from the Creative Circle «Profsoyuz».

The explanatory note.

 Slogan: in English – «Open Odessa», in Russian – «Открой свою Одессу» (in Ukrainian – «Відкрий свою Одесу», in German – «Öffne Odessa», in French – «Ouvrir Odessa»).

The difference of the Cyrillic and Latin versions connected with the differnt understanidng of the Odessa’s image by the tourists of two basic groups. The tourists from the former Soviet Union  know what is Odessa in whole. The tourists from the foreign countries do not know what is Odessa even in whole.

Symbol: the keyhole which include the image of the Potemkin Stairs and the sun above it. The city colors of Odessa are used.

Historical background. The architects have thought up the Potemkin Stairs as the central symbol in the Odessa’s panorama from the sea side.it is also the main architectural monuments of the city  and it can be called «visiting card» of Odessa by rights. In addition the stairs is known from the film «The Battleship Potemkin» which is well known abroad and this film is considered the masterpiece of the world-wide cinematographic.

The sense and the emotions. The keyhole is the symbol of the door. Odessa is like the door to Ukraine for the tourists who arrive to Odessa by the sea. The spying through the keyhole symbolizes a puzzle and a mystery.The shape of the keyhole shows definitely the «rarity», that is the tourist understand that they come not to the city of high-tech but «to roam along the old streets».

The use.  A lot of hospitable doors of Odessa with the inscription OPEN odessa will be opened in front of the tourists. Except the marking of the establishments, the symbol  will looks very good on the doors of the taxi cars and sightseeing buses. The symbol will looks organic in thу form of light boxes near the signs of the establishments and at the stations of the tourist transport and taxi. Also we offer to use this symbol as the foundation for the creating of the tourist navigation system (for this purpose it is needed to inscribe the pictograms of the main tourist services and objects in the upper circle) in Odessa. One can place different «gradations» of the symbol for the establishments of the sector of food and service (for example  the standard dividing according to categories for 3-5 stars or bronze-silver-gold).

Promotional products.  The symbol gives the opportunities for the creative with the images of  locks and keys (for example – «keys from one’s heart»).Also it can give the new impulse to the tradition to hang up the locks on the Teschin most (or another special set aside place). The shape of the symbol allows to produce the different items – for example awards and souvenirs (the upper circle-the sun can be made       in the shape of  ball).
